                          Dale Heinz - President

Our Board of Directors is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of members through a number of community services. We strive to implement effective leadership and go the extra mile to ensure your experience with us is pleasant and hassle-free.

                                                   Neighborhood Voting Representative (NVR)

Dale and Debbie have been married for 49 years and became  full-time residents at Palmetto Dunes  in 2019 following Dale’s retirement from the steel industry.  Originally, they purchased in Turnberry I and after deciding to become full-time Florida residents, they up-sized to Palmetto Dunes.  They have two sons and three grandchildren. Dale graduated from Bowling Green State University  in 1974 and earned his M.B.A. from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1993.

 

His career in the steel industry began as a management trainee at the Cleveland works and then rising through the supervisory ranks to ultimately becoming one of the top executives for ArcelorMittal Steel USA, part of the world’s largest steel and mining enterprise.  His responsibilities included the production of 5 million tons of steel annually and managing nearly 4,000 employees in Burns Harbor, Indiana, in his last assignment.

In 2013 Dale served as President of The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME), and in 2016 he became an Honorary Member of AIME. In 2019 he was recognized by AIST as a Distinguished Member and Fellow. He served for five years on the Board of The Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center. He also served the American Heart Association for 15 years in Northwest Indiana, including as HeartWalk Chairman (five times) and as the Northwest Indiana Affiliate Board Chairman for five years.

In 2020, Dale accepted a position with International Recycling Group, a startup firm planning to take the post-consumer plastic waste and convert it to an alternative fuel source for the steel-making industry.  In his new role as VP Technology – Steel, he plans to contribute to improving the environment by reducing or eliminating plastic waste going into landfills, lakes, rivers, streams and the oceans.

                                                                           Michael Burson - Vice President - Communications

Professional Background
Senior Vice President & Principle – Colliers - Atlanta International Commercial Real Estate Services (Retired).
Over 30 years in commercial property management and real estate investment services with leadership responsibilities overseeing a 100 million SF office, industrial and retail shopping center portfolio for various institutional clients. Managed a team of 125+ managers and on-site property support staff located throughout the southeast delivering financial reporting, budgeting, property operations, construction management and contract administration services.  
Holds Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) since1988.

                                                                            Jean Davy - Vice President - Communications

Jean Davy and her husband Phil are snowbirds from Toronto Canada. They have spent their winters in Pelican Sound since 2012 and bought a home in Palmetto Dunes in 2018. 

 

Jean served on the Board of Directors of her northern golf club during which time she chaired two committees - one which was responsible for the implementation of a multi-year multi-million dollar course enhancement project and the other for the creation of a ten year course improvement plan. Jean also served on a committee that completed a 5 year strategic plan for the club. 

 

Her professional career consisted of 35+ years as an Information Management Consultant focusing on the utilization of cutting-edge technology in the insurance and banking industries in Canada and the USA. She managed large multi-disciplinary project teams to integrate business strategies, business processes and technology to transform the business and provide first-class customer service. Her experience includes strategic planning, program and project management, customer relationship management, partner relationship management, business reengineering, value propositions and risk assessments. Jean graduated from university in Computer Science. 

 

Jean now keeps busy playing golf and pickleball and reading. She and Phil have two daughters who enjoy visiting Pelican Sound every December. 

Ray Halik - Vice President

Ray was employed by the 3M Company from 1973 – 2009, in various US  & International manufacturing locations. He specialized in tapes and adhesives.  Lived in Freehold, NJ, Austin, TX, and Woodbury, MN. His professional duties and responsibilities have been as follows:

  • Process & Industrial Engineering

  • IT programming and Data Center Management

  • Site Logistics Mgr

  • Divisional Outsourcing Manager

  • Supply Chain Mgr for $1B Division, 20 employees

  • International Manufacturing Operations Manager for 3M Tapes & Adhesives. Major country responsibilities included Canada, Brazil, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland, France, Germany, Poland, India, Singapore, China, S. Korea, Japan, and New Zealand.

  • Built six new factories, involved with site selections, financial justifications to 3M Board, engineering reviews, site HR plans, product scale-up to support regional business plans, and on-going financial operational reviews to assure we met the overall strategic plans.

 

His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, an MBA in Manufacturing Management, and holds a license as a Professional Engineer in NJ for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

Ray and his wife Chris have been married 47 years and have two children.  They purchased in Palmetto Dunes in May 2013 and originally purchased in Southern Hills, March 2010.  They spend the summers at their home in Woodbury, Minnesota, and volunteers as an IRS/AARP tax preparer in Lee County.

Ray has served on the Palmetto Dunes Landscape committee and just completed three terms as the President/NVR.

                         Mary Cook - Vice President  - Secretary

Mary Cook and her husband Everett have lived in Palmetto Dunes since 2014, but have been owners in Pelican Sound since they bought a coach home in Southern Hills in 2004. They now live on Classics Court from mid-October to mid-May and could not be happier.

 

Mary is an avid bridge player and reader and belongs to several book clubs and bridge groups within the community and enjoys bocce.  Mary and Everett are active members of First Baptist Church of Naples, and Mary is a facilitator for a bible study in Pelican Sound.  She was a member of the Appeals Committee for two terms.

​

Mary grew up in northern Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Law School.  She worked at the Housing and Redevelopment Authority and then the City Attorney’s Office in St. Paul, Minnesota.   Once Everett was transferred to Philadelphia, they moved to New Jersey.  She worked as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey from 1980 to 1986.  Thereafter she began working as a litigation associate for the law firm of McCarter & English in the area of product liability and asbestos defense.  From 1994 to 2009 she was a senior associate at Wilbraham Lawler & Buba where she tried cases and managed asbestos litigation in Philadelphia and New Jersey.

​

When they are not in Pelican Sound, Mary and Everett make their home in Cashion, Oklahoma.  They take the shortcut from Florida to Oklahoma through New Jersey to visit their daughter Katie.  Their other daughter Kelly lives in Dallas, which is a much easier drive.

                     David Koch - Vice President - Treasurer

Dave has been a resident of Palmetto Dunes since April of 2020.  He and his wife Annette are natives of Hudson, Iowa and raised their family in the Chicago area.  They now spend their summers in Wisconsin on Lake Redstone, while their two children and one grandchild reside in Downers Grove and Chicago. Dave is active in golf and pickleball and enjoys the occasional game of bridge.  They are also active in the Pelican Sound Charitable Foundation with events and fundraising.

 

Dave initially worked for International Harvester in 1984 and moved over to Caterpillar in 1988 in Aurora, Illinois where he designed Ag tractors and attachments for Construction Equipment.  Prior to retiring in 2016, Dave was leading the design and manufacturing for Caterpillar work tools around the world.  He is a graduate of Iowa State University and has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Kathy Fitzpatrick - Vice President

Personal:
Married to Jim Fitzpatrick, who is currently on the Pelican Sound Board. Mother of 4 children. Our primary residence is in Green Bay, WI.
Original Owner in Palmetto Dunes. We rented our unit for 8 years while my husband and I were still working. We now alternate between our two homes spending approximately 5 months of the year in Florida.

Background:
- Worked in the property management business for over 20 years.
- Owned a property management company for 11 years.
- Managed residential condominiums, medical condominiums, Section 8 & HUD subsidized housing, office buildings and market rate housing.
- Dealt with owners, contractors and association boards for many years.
- Facilitated the sale of my company to an employee in 2010 and worked with the new owner for 14 months as a consultant.
- Earned an Associate degree in Accounting
- Served as Treasurer for Ecumenical Partnership for Housing – a group of 20 churches in Green
Bay that purchase housing units and provide transitional housing for homeless families.
- Served on the Palmetto Dunes Board for two terms, 2014-2018 and was Board President
/NVR.
- Currently I am on the Board for the Charitable Foundation and the Grant Committee.
